Alice Adventures In wonderland by Lewis Carroll takes place in the Victorian times. The main character Alice is a curious and energetic young girl. She starts her adventure by following a white rabbit that seemed to be in a rush. She had fallen down the hole that leads her to many unique characters we come to meet in the book. Lewis’s interest for younger children in his adult years was quite odd for his age. He showed interest in a young girl named Alice Liddell, the daughter of George Liddell. Carroll took Alice and her sisters on a boating trip. On the trip Carroll â€Å"told them the fairy-tail of Alice’s adventures underground† (Stanley 17). Real life situations, characters, and the Victorian Era relate to Carroll’s life in the book. The book was not originally written for other people but for the young girl Alice. Alice loved the story so much; she pleaded Carroll to write the story down for her. He later decided that he would write it as she asked. It took him two years to complete the final draft. Carroll was encouraged by friends to publish his engaging story. The first edition published was called Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was published in June 1865 (Stanley 18). It contained a lot of errors in the book, and received a lot of criticism, greatly negative at first (Stanley 18). The readers found the story strange because he is admiring a seven year old girl who is greatly under his age. Others looked at the book as a child friendly book that includes imagination.
